Dental Veneers in Midtown East NYC

Teeth Whitening

Veneers are a natural-looking cosmetic treatment that can provide a dramatic smile makeover.

At Midtown Dental Care Associates, we are proud to offer high-quality, aesthetically pleasing dental veneers.

What Are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are very thin shells that cover the front surfaces of the teeth. We remove a tiny layer of tooth enamel to prepare the teeth to receive the veneers, which are chemically bonded to the teeth with a dental cement that hardens under a special light. Dental veneers are tough and durable, and they can last a long time with proper care. We will help you decide on just the right tooth size, length, color, and fit.

How Dental Veneers Help Improve Your Smile

Dental veneers are designed to enhance smiles that are healthy but do not look their best. If you have any oral health issues such as gum disease or tooth decay, we must address those problems before placing your veneers. In addition, if your teeth are badly crooked or misaligned, we might suggest a treatment such as Invisalign first. There are many reasons to get dental veneers including:

  • Cosmetically perfecting the smile
  • Fixing misshapen or crooked teeth
  • Covering discoloration or stains that cannot be whitened
  • Improving the size of the teeth
  • Closing gaps between teeth
  • Repairing teeth that are chipped or worn down

Types of Veneers

Dental veneers come in three basic types:

Porcelain Veneers: Porcelain veneers are the longest-lasting and most aesthetically-pleasing type of veneers. They are created in a lab to the exact specifications of the dentist and mimic the look of natural enamel, using multiple thin layers of porcelain. The size, color, shape, and fit are fully customized.

Composite Veneers: Made from composite resin, these can be created in our office. They are less expensive than porcelain veneers, and they can be an effective solution for less extensive cosmetic improvements. They are fully customized, and they can alter the appearance of tooth color, size, or shape. However, the composite material is somewhat susceptible to staining and does not last as long as porcelain.

Instant Veneers: Prefabricated resin veneers come in different sizes and shapes but are not customized to the shape and fit of your teeth. We do not recommend instant veneers because they do not provide the appearance, quality, or durability of custom veneers.

What to Expect

While composite veneers can generally be completed in one or two visits, porcelain veneers typically take three office visits. At your first visit, we will examine your smile and help you decide whether veneers are the best solution for you. If you choose to go with veneers, we will take X-rays and dental impressions, and help you design your new smile.

We’ll discuss whether you might want to whiten your teeth before your veneers are made. Just remember that you will need to whiten your teeth periodically to maintain the color match, as veneers do not yellow as teeth do.

At your second appointment, we will prepare your teeth by removing a very thin layer of tooth enamel from the teeth that will receive veneers. This allows the veneer to fit seamlessly with the contours of the natural tooth. We will then take additional impressions of just those teeth, and send them along with detailed instructions to the dental lab.

When your new veneers are ready, you will visit us for your third appointment. We will carefully place your veneers and chemically bond them to your teeth. We will then remove any extra cement, adjust the bite if needed, and perform last minute touches to ensure that your new smile is as functional as it is beautiful.
